Satelites Above Our Sea: Navigation, Safety, and Independence. The Next Open Lecture in the GMU Series Marking the Centenary of Gdynia

At 18:00 in the auditorium of the Gdynia Maritime University Faculty of Navigation at 3 Jana Pawła II Avenue, Dr Jarosław Cydejko will give a talk on satellite navigation systems, which have become an everyday reality in professional maritime and aviation navigation, as well as in many other aspects of daily life. 

During the lecture, entitled 'Satellites Over Our Sea: Navigation, Safety, Independence', participants will learn how satellites enable extremely precise positioning and gain insight into the operation of modern satellite navigation systems. The speaker will also explain the impact that satellite positioning signal interference – increasingly observed in our region – can have on navigation safety. 

Have you ever wondered how satellite navigation systems work? Or perhaps you would like to know what laws of physics allow objects launched from Earth to remain in their orbits for many years? What do these orbits look like? These topics, among many others, will be addressed during the lecture. A warm welcome to all, says Dr Jarosław Cydejko. 

Dr Jarosław Cydejko is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Navigation at Gdynia Maritime University. He holds a Doctorate in Technical Sciences in Geodesy and Cartography, as well as the highest professional maritime qualification of Master Mariner. In his academic and teaching work, he specialises in electronic navigation and GNSS satellite navigation systems (GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, BeiDou). He is the author and co-author of publications on the application of satellite navigation in maritime operations.

The lecture series for Gdynia's centenary is a collaborative initiative run jointly by Gdynia Maritime University, the Polish Naval Academy, WSB Merito University Gdynia, and the Eugeniusz Kwiatkowski University of Administration and Business, in cooperation with the City of Gdynia. The event is part of the celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of the city and aims to popularise knowledge and familiarise residents with the scientific activities of Gdynia's higher education institutions.

The talk will be given in Polish. Admission is free.
