35th Economic Forum Attended by GMU Leaders

From 8 to 10 September 2026, the 35th Economic Forum was held in Karpacz – one of the most prominent socio-economic events in Central and Eastern Europe. Participating in the Forum was the GMU Rector, Professor Adam Weintrit, who was among the ‘Top Speakers’ of this year’s edition.
The programme of the 35th Economic Forum was divided into eight thematic tracks: AI Forum, Digitalisation Forum, Healthcare Forum, Forum of Regions, Economy, International Politics and Security, Society, and Sustainable Development. Debates, panels, and meetings addressing the key challenges facing the modern economy and society were held within each track. A prominent place in the discussions was also given to issues concerning science and higher education, university-business cooperation, and training personnel to meet the demands of a dynamic and evolving economy.
On the first day of the Forum, the GMU Rector, Professor Adam Weintrit, and the Director of the Maritime Operations Department, Dariusz Jellonnek, took part in a panel discussion entitled ‘A New Era of Maritime Transport – Technologies, Safety, and Sustainable Development’, organised under the Economy thematic track. Master Mariner Dariusz Jellonnek participated in the debate as a representative of the Polish Shipping Companies Association (PZPŻ). The discussion focused on the transformations taking place in maritime transport driven by digitalisation, automation, and the energy transition, as well as the increasing importance of critical infrastructure security and maritime supply chain resilience.
The first day of the 35th Economic Forum culminated in an official Gala, during which the Economic Forum awards were presented. Among those honoured was Minister of Infrastructure Dariusz Klimczak, who received the Economic Forum’s ‘Man of the Year 2026’ award. Minister Klimczak was recognised for the ongoing delivery of infrastructure development plans, his contribution to the development of the Polish economy, and consistency in executing strategic initiatives. Upon accepting the award, he emphasised that he regarded it as recognition for everyone who works every day towards the development and smooth functioning of Polish infrastructure, citing, among others, pilots, seafarers, engineers, and designers.
More than 6,000 participants attended the 35th Economic Forum – politicians, business leaders, academics, experts, and local government officials from numerous countries. The Forum provides a platform for exchanging experience and discussing future development trajectories for Poland and Europe.
