Department of Logistics and Transport Systems Visits the Port of Rønne

Gdynia Maritime University, as a project partner, was represented by staff from the Department of Logistics and Transport Systems: project manager Dr Maciej Matczak, Dr Sławomir Skiba and Adrianna Karaś. The objective of the DeCoInter project is to support the energy transition by implementing green renewable energy technologies and alternative fuels in seaports.

On the first day, a partner meeting was held to discuss the progress of individual project work packages and plan upcoming activities within the scheduled tasks.

On the second day, a study visit to the port took place, which included a boat tour of the port waters where the project partners were able to see individual areas of the port and their infrastructure. The route included areas serving ferry traffic at the Oernes Kaj quay and the industrial section of the port, which accommodates the Kulkajen and Silokajen quays, adapted for handling heavy cargo and offshore projects. The port currently supports the construction of Poland’s first offshore wind farm, Baltic Power, undertaken by the ORLEN Group.

Presentations were then delivered on matters concerning the development of energy transition projects on the island of Bornholm. Mads Bay Møller, Project Developer & Architect at Baltic Energy Island, presented the concept of the Baltic Energy Island and its significance for local enterprises. Lone Reppien Thomsen, CEO of Offshore Center Bornholm, outlined the opportunities for local business arising from emerging projects.

The meeting was also attended by the project lead partner – the Association of Polish Regions of the Baltic-Adriatic Transport Corridor – as well as the Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority (Poland), the Motus Foundation (Poland), the Port of Klaipėda (Lithuania), Klaipeda Science and Technology Park (Lithuania), the Port of Rønne (Denmark), Blekinge Institute of Technology (Sweden), and CPL Competence in Ports & Logistics (Germany).
