Publishing in Leading Journals: GMU Hosts Third Seminar with an Editor-in-Chief

On 24 September 2026, the Faculty of Management and Quality Science at Gdynia Maritime University hosted the third event in the series Seminars with Editors-in-Chief of Prestigious Academic Journals. The seminar was led by Professor Johann Fortwengel of King’s Business School, King’s College London, who serves as General Editor of the Journal of Management Studies. The event brought together academic staff from the GMU Faculty of Management and Quality Science.
The session focused on preparing and publishing papers in leading international journals within management and quality science. Professor Fortwengel outlined the profile of the Journal of Management Studies, discussed the expectations of editors and reviewers, and presented best publishing practices. He paid particular attention to the primary reasons for desk rejection – where manuscripts are turned down prior to peer review – and practical strategies for navigating the review process successfully.
A workshop and an interactive Q&A session formed an integral part of the seminar. Participants were able to consult on completed manuscripts, papers in development, and early-stage research concepts. The format offered staff tailored guidance on articulating scientific contributions, framing argumentation, and formulating effective responses to reviewer comments.
This was the third training session of its kind organised to support the professional and scholarly development of Faculty staff. The series aims to enhance publication quality and sharpen core research skills. Direct engagement with editors of leading journals provides staff with deeper insight into international research and presentation standards, improving prospects for publication in high-impact periodicals. These initiatives also advance GMU’s internationalisation agenda, foster research partnerships with foreign academic institutions, and raise the international profile of GMU research output.
The seminar was organised under the project PROGRESS – Scientific and Research Development of Gdynia Maritime University in Management and Quality Sciences, headed by Dr Joanna Kizielewicz, Deputy Rector for International Cooperation. Event coordination was led by Dr Katarzyna Skrzeszewska, Assistant Professor in the Faculty's Department of Management and Economics.
The seminar was funded under the project co-financed by the Minister of Science as part of the Regional Excellence Initiative programme. Total project funding stands at PLN 1,551,000.00. Project reference: RID/SP/0023/2024/01.
