On 25 September 2026, Gdynia Maritime University hosted a meeting with representatives of the Embassy of the United States in Poland: Monika Rokicka, American Spaces Director, and Beata Milewska, representing the US Embassy’s Public Diplomacy Section. Gdynia Maritime University was represented by the Rector, Professor Adam Weintrit, and Deputy Rector for International Cooperation, Dr Joanna Kizielewicz.

The meeting focused on opportunities to further develop cooperation between Gdynia Maritime University and the US Embassy, including collaboration with the American Spaces network. The Embassy representatives outlined opportunities available to the academic community, including meetings with American experts and initiatives supporting the international mobility of students, doctoral candidates and academic staff.

The participants also discussed opportunities for cooperation under the Fulbright Programme and other initiatives that could be of interest to GMU students and staff, supporting their research, teaching and professional development, and expanding opportunities to establish contacts with partners in the United States.

Both sides expressed an interest in continuing their cooperation and taking steps towards organising a United States Day at Gdynia Maritime University. The planned event would be aimed primarily at students and would provide an opportunity to learn more about American culture, the higher education system and scientific achievements, as well as opportunities for academic development, participation in scholarship programmes and international exchange.
