GMU in the Times Higher Education Rankings 2027
We are pleased to announce that Gdynia Maritime University has once again been included among the prestigious group of universities ranked in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2027 (THE WUR 2027).
In this year’s ranking, our University is placed in the 2001+ band among 2,297 ranked institutions from 118 countries, including 48 Polish higher education institutions. A total of 3,146 institutions worldwide submitted their applications for the ranking.
Alongside the methodology of other major global rankings such as the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) – the so-called Shanghai Ranking – and the Quacquarelli Symonds World University Ranking (QS), the methodology used by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE) is among the most recognised and comprehensive. It covers 17 carefully calibrated performance indicators to evaluate institutions across five key areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry, and international outlook. For the purposes of the current ranking, 188.7 million citations and 19.9 million research publications were analysed, alongside the results of more than 69,000 survey responses from scholars worldwide who assessed academic reputation.
Gdynia Maritime University recorded an increase in scores across all five areas evaluated in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2027. In the teaching pillar, the score rose from 23.4 to 24.2; in the research environment pillar, from 11.5 to 13.3; in the research quality pillar, from 15.5 to 16.7; in the industry pillar, from 54.2 to 55.0; and in the international outlook pillar, from 21.2 to 22.4.
