Dar Młodzieży Departs Gdynia on Two-Month Voyage

On 20 June 2025 at 09:00 hours, the Dar Młodzieży set sail from its home port in Gdynia on a two-month voyage with 118 students from the Faculty of Navigation and 7 students from the Faculty of Marine Engineering on board. The students and the 32-person crew were bid farewell by HM The Rector of Gdynia Maritime University, Professor Adam Weintrit, and the Director of the Maritime Operations Department, Captain Dariusz Jellonnek.

As members of the crew, the students will have the opportunity to gain experience at sea, during which future officers of the merchant navy will not only familiarise themselves with the ship but also test their skills in preparation for their future profession as seafarers. They will also learn to overcome challenges and complete specific tasks through teamwork.

As part of the voyage, the students will take part in The Tall Ship Races 2025. Those interested in following the race as it unfolds can follow it live, including the location of Dar Młodzieży, on the event organiser’s website: YB Tracking 2025 - Sail Training International

Those on board will also take place in another regatta, held in Bremerhaven since 1986, which will take place this year from 13 to 17 August. On 14 August, the GMU students will take part in celebrations for the 50th anniversary of The University of Applied Sciences Bremerhaven (Hochschule Bremerhaven), with which GMU has collaborated for more than 20 years.

Next on 16 August, following the disembarkation of the students on board, another group of 130 student cadets from the GMU Faculty of Navigation will take part in the 10th Sail Amsterdam, which this year will be part of celebrations for the 750 anniversary of the city, from 20 to 24 August.

Dar Młodzieży will return to Gdynia on 14 September.
