On 11th November 2022, on the occasion of National Independence Day, the President of Poland Andrzej Duda awarded national decorations to persons in recognition of their service to the country and society.

Professor Józef Lisowski, a Polish scientist, professor of technical sciences, and specialist in ship electro-automation, was honoured for his achievements in maritime education and the maritime industry with the Commander's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta. Professor Lisowski served as Rector of Gdynia Maritime University during the years 1989 - 1996 and 2002 - 2008.
