Construction of Centre for the Offshore Industry Enters Final Stages

The completion of Gdynia Maritime University's Centre for the Offshore Industry in the vicinity of the Wisłoujście Fortress in Gdansk is planned for June 2023.

The construction of the Centre for the Offshore Industry began in the second half of 2021 following the signing on 15th June 2021 of a contract between Gdynia Maritime University and Budimex S.A. for the construction of the "Innovation Centre for the Integrated Research Laboratories of the Marine Environment for the Offshore Industry."

A year later, on 15th September 2022, a topping-off ceremony took place to mark reaching the highest point of construction of the building.

Since then, the construction work has progressed apace, reaching an estimated rate of completion of 68.92% in February.

Current work being carried out within the building includes painting, plastering, carpeting, and the installation of suspended ceilings and doors. Work is being carried out on the facade of the building, as well as on the electrical and sanitary installations, cold store installation, and fire protection system.

Outside the building, work will soon get underway on laying pavements, internal roads and the car parks, as well as the completion of the exterior fence surrounding the area.

The Centre for the Offshore Industry will be the new headquarters of the GMU Maritime Institute. The Centre will conduct comprehensive research and measurements at sea to obtain new information on the state of the marine environment and its resources. This information is essential to the fuel, shipbuilding, offshore wind energy, and maritime transport industries.

The value of the investment, including equipment, is estimated at PLN 60m.

The project is co-financed under the Pomeranian Regional Operational Programme 2014-2020, part of the European Regional Development Fund.
