Electronic Map Lab and ECDIS System

The laboratory features a NaviTrainer 5000 Professional simulator paired with the NaviSailor 4000 Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS). The simulator was developed by Transas, now part of the Wärtsilä Group.

This facility is used in classes on navigation equipment attended by bachelor’s (first-cycle) Maritime Transport students, particularly in modules covering ECDIS and Navigation Safety. The simulator consists of six desktop navigation bridges and an instructor’s console with an interactive board used for pre- and post-class discussions.

The system incorporates an extensive database of vector charts and mathematical models of vessels and training areas. These capabilities enable students to experience highly realistic simulations that accurately reflect a ship’s behaviour, manoeuvring, and environmental conditions at sea.
