Horyzont II

Launched on 22 June 1999 at the Gdańsk Remontowa Yard in Poland, Horyzont II is a purpose-built vessel designed to bridge world-class scientific inquiry with hands-on maritime training. Built to withstand demanding marine environments, the ship frequently undertakes regular polar expeditions to Spitsbergen, seamlessly combining oceanographic research with vital cargo transport. Accommodation onboard caters for up to 57 crew members, scientists, and students.

  • Mirror Navigation Suite: Alongside a state-of-the-art main bridge, the training cabin houses four dedicated student workstations that fully replicate the navigational bridge controls.
  • Modern Propulsion & Automation: Provides hands-on operational experience for future deck officers, marine engineers, and electro-technical specialists.
  • Dedicated Learning Spaces: Features a spacious engine control room, a 32-seat lecture room, and an onboard computing suite.

Specialised Transport & Polar Support

Equipped to carry two standard 20 ft ISO containers (including refrigerated units), the Horyzont II provides essential logistical support across international waters. She routinely serves Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN) research stations in Spitsbergen and the Antarctic, transporting personnel, scientific gear, and vital supplies.
