Independence Day Parade 2025

On 11 November 2025, Gdynia will hold its traditional celebrations of Poland’s regaining of independence in 1918. One of the principal focuses of the day is an independence parade, in which staff, students, and doctoral candidates from Gdynia Maritime University honourably represent our University each year. 

Join us in presenting Gdynia Maritime University with dignity on Independence Day.

We encourage all staff, students, and doctoral candidates at GMU to join the celebrations and be part of the University’s representation. As always, families are more than welcome to attend.

The Independence Parade will take place on Tuesday, 11th November 2025, at 12:00 noon. Gdynia Maritime University students will meet at 11:00 am in front of the city hall (al. Marszałka Józefa Piłsudskiego 52/54) at the south end of Świętojańska Street (near the ‘Anker’ pizzeria), where until 11:15 the GMU contingent will be formed to later join the main parade. We will then make our way along Marshal Józef Piłsudski Alley in the direction of the City Hall. Staff and doctoral candidates, together with their families, are invited to gather at the same meeting point at 11:30 am.

The Route of the Independence Parade

The parade will start at 12:00 noon at the city hall and will make its way down Świętojańska Street to the Polish Maritime Monument in Skwer Kościuszki, where an official ceremony will be held with the involvement of the city authorities, Navy command, and delegations from social organisations. As with every year, Gdynia Maritime University will also take part in the ceremony.

Let’s commemorate our participation in the Independence Parade with a traditional group photo!

As is tradition, all those representing GMU will be invited to join us for a group photo commemorating their participation in the Council of Europe Park (Park Rady Europy) at the end of the route. 

Participants will also be treated to a traditional sweet pastry.

All students who would like to carry a flag during the Independence Parade, wear the outfit of our mascot, or Dar Młodzieży overalls should contact us by 5 November 2025 at promocja@umg.edu.pl
