Independence Day Parade 2022
On 11 November 2022, Gdynia celebrated the 104th anniversary of Poland's regaining of independence in 1918. A parade of white and red passed through the main axis of the city, attended by Gdynia Maritime University as well as other groups representing local schools, universities, and social organisations,
Many locals and visitors to the city lined the streets to watch and cheer those taking part in the main attraction of this important day. This year, the parade traversed a different route than usual, setting off from Aleja Marszałka Piłsudskiego and passing through Świętojańska street, the city's main thoroughfare, to reach Skwer Kościuszki, where an official ceremony took place in front of the Maritime Poland monument with the participation of the city's authorities, accompanied by an honorary military guard.
The University, represented by its authorities, lecturers, staff, and students, was one of the most numerous groups that took part in the parade.
The GMU formation included Poseidon and his wife Amphitrite, the University mascots, boats, white, red, and blue balloons, flags, and students dressed as pirates. Following the end of the parade at 13:00, all students and employees of our University who took part gathered in the Council of Europe Park for refreshments and, as is tradition, a group photo.
We would like to warmly express our thanks to our staff, students, as well as the University's scientific circles for proudly representing Gdynia Maritime University on Independence Day.
See you all next year!
