Why Choose GMU?

A Unique Location

GMU's two campuses place students at the heart of Gdynia – one of Poland's most dynamic coastal cities.

Our main campus on ul. Morska is a modern academic hub with excellent transport connections, home to the Faculties of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Marine Engineering, and Management and Quality Science.

The Faculty of Navigation is located on al. Jana Pawła II, at the end of Gdynia's picturesque South Pier, right next to the iconic Dar Młodzieży sailing ship and overlooking the Baltic Sea.

Comfortable Student Accommodation

Whether you study at the Main Campus or the Faculty of Navigation, you'll have access to conveniently located student residences. With accommodation available for 850 students, you can enjoy campus life while staying close to your classes – and, in the city-centre residence, wake up to spectacular sea views.

Learn at Sea

Few universities can offer practical training quite like GMU. Students gain valuable hands-on experience aboard three university-operated vessels:

  • Dar Młodzieży – the world-famous sail training ship,
  • Horyzont II – a modern research and training vessel,
  • IMOR – Poland's first research vessel designed for coastal and shallow-water exploration.

These unique facilities allow students to combine classroom learning with real-life maritime experience.

More Than Just Studying

Life at GMU extends far beyond lectures.

Students have access to state-of-the-art laboratories, cutting-edge research facilities, and projects carried out in partnership with industry. They can join more than 20 student scientific societies, participate in conferences, workshops, and study visits, or develop their own ideas and initiatives.

Campus life is equally vibrant outside the classroom. The Student Parliament and faculty councils organise social, cultural, and charity events throughout the year. You can also pursue your passions through sports teams, the Sailing and Water Sports Centre, the Academic Choir, or the university's ceremonial Guard of Honour.
