"I Mean, Said the Sea Captain": Stories of the Sea

The book 'Znaczy Kapitan' - a collection of short stories on maritime issues, Karol Olgierd Borchardt's literary debut, has been translated for the first time into English.

It is now available to buy on Amazon as an e-book and in paperback under the title 'I Mean, Said the Sea Captain'.
The book was translated by the author's daughter - Danuta Borchardt-Stachiewicz.

 


 

Danuta Borchardt-Stachiewicz is the daughter of Karolina and Karol Olgierd Borchardt. She is a medical doctor, writer and translator. She completed her medical studies at the Irish Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Dublin. She has practiced as a clinical psychiatrist at Harvard Medical School and privately. Translating Polish literature into English has brought her prestigious awards: for her translations all four of Gombrowicz's novels (Ferdydurke, Trans-Atlantyk, Kosmos, Pornografia) she won all possible awards in the translation profession. Her translations of Norwid's poetry, published in a bilingual volume in 2011, were equally highly appreciated and awarded.
