Accepted Language Proficiency Certificates

Candidates who do not hold Polish citizenship and are applying for admission to degree programs conducted in Polish are additionally required to include in the application folder submitted to the admissions committee a document confirming their knowledge of the Polish language.

TYPES OF DOCUMENTS CONFIRMING POLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY AT A LEVEL NOT LOWER THAN B2:

  • A Certificate of Proficiency in Polish as a Foreign Language issued by the State Commission for the Certification of Proficiency in Polish as a Foreign Language at level B2 or higher;

  • ECL – European Consortium for the Certificate of Attainment in Modern Languages;

  • TELC – telc GmbH, WBT Weiterbildungs-Testsysteme GmbH;

  • A certificate of completion of a preparatory course for undertaking studies, lasting no less than 9 months;

  • A diploma of graduation from studies with Polish as the language of instruction issued by a higher education institution operating within the higher education and science system of the Republic of Poland;

  • A diploma of graduation from first-cycle, second-cycle, or long-cycle master's degree studies in Polish philology or applied linguistics issued by a foreign higher education institution, together with a diploma supplement or certificate confirming that the number of hours of Polish language instruction was at least 500;

  • A certificate of acquisition of the right to practice as a sworn translator issued by the Minister of Justice, as referred to in Article 5(2) of the Act of 25 November 2004 on the Profession of Sworn Translator (Journal of Laws of 2019, item 1326), or a certificate confirming entry in the register of sworn translators.

– ESOL Skills for Life – Level 1 (B2) or higher
– Integrated Skills in English (ISE) – ISE II or higher
– ISE Digital – over 80 points (B2)

Educational Testing Service (ETS):
– Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), Internet-Based Test (iBT) – minimum score: 72
– Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) – minimum:
 • 785 points in Listening & Reading
 • 150 points in Speaking
 • 160 points in Writing

Pearson Assessment English:
– Pearson English International Certificate – paper-based or computer-based (formerly Pearson Test of English General (PTE) or London Tests of English) – Level 3 (Edexcel Certificate in ESOL International Level 1 – Pass, Merit, or Distinction) or higher
– Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic), both in-person and online – minimum score: 59

Additional documents confirming knowledge of English as the language of instruction in studies include:

  • A certificate of completion of a preparatory course for undertaking university studies, referred to in Article 60(4) of the Act of 12 December 2013 on Foreigners, lasting no less than 9 months, confirming knowledge of the given foreign language in all four language skills: listening, reading, speaking, and writing, at a proficiency level of B2, C1, or C2;

  • A diploma of graduation from first-cycle (Bachelor’s), second-cycle (Master’s), or long-cycle Master’s studies in the field of philology in the scope of the given foreign language or applied linguistics, issued by a higher education institution operating within the higher education and science system of the Republic of Poland or by a foreign higher education institution, together with a diploma supplement or a certificate confirming that the number of instruction hours in the given foreign language was at least 500;

  • A diploma of graduation from first-cycle (Bachelor’s), second-cycle (Master’s), or long-cycle Master’s studies issued by a higher education institution operating within the higher education and science system of the Republic of Poland or by a foreign higher education institution, containing information on the language of instruction. If the diploma does not include such information, a diploma supplement or a separate certificate confirming the language of instruction is also required;

  • An International Baccalaureate Diploma – with respect to the primary language of instruction;

  • A European Baccalaureate Diploma – with respect to the first (L1) or second (L2) language;

  • A certificate of acquisition of the right to practice as a sworn translator of the given foreign language issued by the Minister of Justice, referred to in Article 5(2) of the Act of 25 November 2004 on the Profession of Sworn Translator, or a certificate confirming entry into the register of sworn translators of the given foreign language.
