Successor to Dar Młodzieży

30 September 2025 marked a historic moment for Gdynia Maritime University and the Polish maritime economy – the decision to finance the construction of the successor to the Dar Młodzieży was formally approved.

The Council of Ministers adopted a resolution establishing the multi-annual programme “Construction of Ships for the Maritime Universities during the years 2025–2029”, prepared by the Ministry of Infrastructure. This decision paves the way for the construction of the University’s new training ship, which will replace the current vessel – the Dar Młodzieży.

The successor to the Dar Młodzieży will enable practical training for 120 cadets at the same time. Combining tradition with modern solutions, the new vessel will help maintain the high standard of education provided to the University’s students. It will be equipped with the latest technologies while meeting international safety standards.

As part of the training required under the STCW Convention, students completing their training voyages on the University’s new training ship will continue the tradition of hands-on maritime training. Discipline, responsibility and teamwork will remain at the heart of this experience. These skills are essential in the profession of a seafarer and often play a decisive role in ensuring safety at sea.

The new training vessel will enter service by 2028, serving future generations of merchant fleet officers. The progress of the project will be overseen by the Team for the Construction of the Successor to the Dar Młodzieży Training Ship, appointed by the Rector of Gdynia Maritime University, Prof. Adam Weintrit, DSc, Eng., Master Mariner. The team brings together experts in the field, including Master Mariners with extensive maritime experience.
