Standing Committees

There are four Standing Committees within the structure of the International Association of Maritime Universities. These are the Policy and Planning Committee, the Academic Affairs Committee, the Liaison Committee, and the Financial Affairs Committee. HM The President of Gdynia Maritime University Professor Adam Weintrit is the Head of the Policy and Planning Committee for the 2023-2025 term of office.

Tasks of the Committee

  • advise the Management Board on general and specific political issues;
  • develop and evaluate the implementation of strategic and action plans;
  • oversee the assessment of new membership applications:
  • nominate candidates for the International Executive Board and heads of the Standing Committees for the next term of office;
  • create public information materials, including the development of the IAMU website.

Tasks of the Committee

  • advise the International Executive Board on academic activities related to Maritime Education and Training and Maritime Research, both scientific and professional;
  • manage the IAMU research project system, including the selection of research topics, evaluation and review of research proposals;
  • advise the International Executive Board of research outcomes;
  • supervise activities of the IAMU Section editor of the WMU Journal of Maritime Affairs and promote member universities for contributions;
  • promote and supervise academic publications and presentations of the AGA and other activities performed by the Association.

Tasks of the Committee

  • advise the International Executive Board on contemporary issues in the international maritime community associated with IAMU mandates;
  • facilitate communication with the maritime industry, the International Maritime Organization (IMO), and other maritime organizations;
  • represent the IAMU at IMO meetings related to the activities of the Association;  
  • ensure the IAMU’s contribution to the IMO, as a Non-Governmental Organization with Consultative status, is ever more effective and valued.

  • advise the International Executive Board on the formulation and implementation of the annual budget of the Association;
  • advise the Executive Director on the effective operation of the financial administration;  
  • coordinate a financial audit every fiscal year in accounting and internal administration in the Secretariat.
