Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) Simulation Laboratory

Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) Simulation Laboratory

The modern interactive GMDSS simulator - TRANSAS TGS 5000 consists of an instructors station and seven dual training stations.
The instructor can delegate training tasks and control their implementation, and present the content of the training in a multimedia presentation.

Simulator training takes place in three modes:
1) all training stations work together in a common environment;
2) training stations work independently in separate environments for independent learning;
3) mixed mode.

The simulator allows students to experience "maritime conditions" on every training station, including factors such as the navigation of the ship by GPS, the change of the shipping area, the propagation of the radio wave, radio receiver interference, etc.
Trainees may take part in predefined training scenarios, which may be determined for the purpose of the ship's priority communication conditions (including communications in Search and Rescue operations), general (public) communication, etc.

The simulator also provides training in communications operations and procedures through the use of GMDSS component devices and subsystems, as well as certain auxiliary components that are not part of the system:

  • VHF - DSC and Radiotelephony;
  • MF/HF - DSC and Radiotelephony;
  • Inmarsat C satellite terminal with EGC receiver;
  • Inmarsat Fleet BroadBand satellite terminal;
  • Inmarsat Fleet77 satellite terminal;
  • NAVTEX receiver;
  • EPIRB marine emergency ship;
  • SART radio transponder;
  • AIS-SART transmitter;
  • GMDSS portable radio-telephone;
  • NBDP radiotelex terminal;
  • GPS receiver;
  • AIS transmission and reception device;
  • GMDSS electric ship station power panel;
  • alarm panel;
  • navigation radar, including
  • a VHF radio-telephone for communication with air navigation units in SAR operations;
  • VHF Radiometer;
  • a maritime map showing changes in ship position;
  • professional publications.

The room is spacious, modernly equipped and provides a high level of work comfort.
Professional acoustic panels have been installed to improve the quality of instruction, as well as an audio-visual system with  projector and screen, effective ventilation and air conditioning.
The intensity of the lighting may be adjusted to ensure suitable conditions during many of hours of training sessions.
