Pomerania Awarded European Regional Development Funding for 2021-2027
On Thursday 9th February 2023, the staff of the Department of Science at Gdynia Maritime University took part in a ceremony attended by the EU Commissioner for Regional Policy, Elisa Ferreira, confirming the award of a programme of funding to Pomerania under The European Regional Development Fund for the years 2021-2027.
As emphasised by the Marshal of Pomerania, the region has received almost PLN 60bn in EU funding since 2014.
Gdynia Maritime University has carried out or is currently carrying out nine projects worth more than PLN 90 million as part of the Operational Programme for Pomerania 2014-2020, of which PLN 42m was funding granted directly to the University:
- Innovative Centre of Integrated Marine Environment Research Laboratories for the Offshore Industry
- Knowledge Transfer Platform FindFish - Numerical Forecasting System for Fishing in the Marine Environment of Gdansk Bay.
- Creation of a prototype of a system for the monitoring of waterfront loads and bottom reinforcements in mooring areas, including the introduction of the finished product to the market by Enamor Sp. z o.o., Gdynia
- Pomerania Talent [Zdolni z Pomorza]
- Development of a teaching infrastructure supporting practical education at the Faculties of Marine Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Navigation at Gdynia Maritime Academy - purchase of equipment for academic laboratories.
- Pomeranian Digital Library
- Construction of Gdynia Maritime Academy's main library on the site of the old boiler room
- Remodelling and refurbishment of rooms for academic purposes at the premises of Gdynia Maritime Academy on Al. Jana Pawła II 3
- Improvement of the quality of scientific and teaching infrastructure through the construction, modernisation, and purchase of equipment for the administration and storage building of the Faculty of Navigation of Gdynia Maritime Academy
The funds available to the region for the new few years, awarded under the European funds for Pomerania 2021-2027 programme, are EUR 1,751,800 or approximately PLN 8.5bn.
These measures will enable projects to be conducted in support areas such as entrepreneurship, energy, climate, environment, urban mobility and transport, education, social and health infrastructure, culture and tourism, and territorial instruments, as well as projects in social services, education, health, and the employment market.
