Faculty of Marine Engineering

But the mechanic, when a wheel refuses to turn, never thinks of dropping on his knees and asking the assistance of some divine power. He knows there is a reason. He knows that something is too large or too small; that there is something wrong with his machine.
Robert G. Ingersoll

In high demand across the world's leading fleets, our graduates land jobs fast – with near-100% employment on graduation. Exceptionally prepared for the modern labour market, they bring unique expertise in the design, manufacture, and operation of marine machinery and equipment.

These are graduates of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Gdynia Maritime University future – merchant fleet engineering officers and land-based engineering professionals.

Our Educational Focus

The Faculty of Marine Engineering at Gdynia Maritime University is the first university faculty in Poland to be awarded ISO 9001 accreditation, confirming the quality of our education and training.
The Faculty prepares its students across three fields of study: Mechanical Engineering, Operation and Diagnostics of Technical Systems, and Offshore Wind Energy.

Find out about our study programmes – including marine and land-based degree specialisations.

Departments

The Faculty of Marine Engineering comprises four departments: Physics, Marine Maintenance, Engineering Sciences, and Marine Propulsion Plants.

Laboratories and Simulators

Hands-on learning is central at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. Our students spend much of their time in advanced laboratories and state-of-the-art simulators, honing practical skills.

Mechanical Engineers' Day

Each year the Faculty celebrates Mechanical Engineers' Day, during which students compete in competitions such as 'The Best Dissertation', 'The Best Placement Report', or 'The Dean of the Faculty of Marine Engineering Cup'. Part of the event is a gathering of representatives of around
30 companies from the maritime sector who have long-standing ties
with the Faculty of Marine Engineering

Sea Training

Le Havre, Dunkirk, Aberdeen, Kristiansand, Esbjerg, and Bremerhaven – these are just some of the ports which students studying marine engineering specialisations call at during training at sea. Training takes place on board the University's ships, the Dar Młodzieży and the Horyzont II.

Through their experience at sea, our students learn not only discipline and teamwork but, above all, humility and respect for the power of the sea.

Land-based Training Placements

For many years, the Faculty of Marine Engineering has cooperated effectively with many mechanical engineering and manufacturing companies, providing its students with opportunities to benefit from experience gained during professional placements in industry.

Cooperation and Partnerships

The Faculty of Marine Engineering maintains active cooperation with the world of business. The largest companies in the maritime sector have signed partnership agreements with the Faculty to commercialise our research.

Industry partnerships in transport, forwarding, and logistics (TSL) secure our students land-based internships with leading employers.
