Marine Data Engineer

Local Unit & Position Description

Our ShipManager software is a modularized solution, so you can choose individual modules or a complete ship management system that covers your needs. Modules include a planned maintenance system (PMS), shipping procurement, ship safety management systems (QHSE), crew management system, hull integrity management, dry-docking and ship repair and shipping data analytics (business intelligence).

As a Marine Data Engineer at DNV, you will play a crucial role in developing and implementing cutting-edge data solutions for the marine industry. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of marine scientists, data analysts, and software engineers to collect, process, analyze, and visualize large volumes of marine data. Your expertise will be instrumental in designing and optimizing data pipelines, creating data models, and developing algorithms to extract valuable insights from diverse data sources.

Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with marine scientists and domain experts to understand data requirements and develop data models for analysis and visualization
  • Acquire datasets that align with business needs
  • Develop algorithms to transform data into useful, actionable information
  • Build, test, and maintain database pipeline architectures
  • Collaborate with management to understand company objectives
  • Create new data validation methods and data analysis tools
  • Ensure compliance with data governance and security policies
  • Perform data validation, quality control, and develop automated data validation routines

Position Qualifications:

  • A degree in Marine Science, Data Science or a related field
  • Experience in data engineering, data analysis, or a similar role
  • Basic knowledge of SQL
  • Basic knowledge of ship construction
  • Strong understanding of data processing frameworks, databases, and data warehousing concepts
  • Knowledge of marine data formats, standards, and related technologies is a plus
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and in a team
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • English proficiency
